Semi-automated manufacturing of Athelas One test strips
May 2022 – Aug 2022Deployed#healthcare#hardware#automation#embedded#manufacturing

Overview
My first intersnhip was at YC-backed Athelas, where I designed and implemented a hardware automation system for manufacturing test strips used in Class II hematology medical devices.
The project included writing ARM-based firmware, drivers, motors, custom PCBs, power delivery, and a user control interface. I worked closely with senior engineers to validate the system under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 standards. The system semi-automated critical manufacturing steps that were previously manual and a bottleneck to production, significantly reducing variability and increasing both throughput and yield. This work directly supported the scaling of Athelas One production during a critical growth phase and has since processed 400,000+ test strips its induction in Aug 2022.
